🧠 What “OhioRISE respite” means OhioRISE (Resilience Through Integrated Systems and Excellence) is a Medicaid program in Ohio for children and youth (ages 0–20) with significant behavioral or mental health needs. One of its services is respite care, which gives caregivers a short break while the child is safely cared for. 🏡 Types of OhioRISE respite OhioRISE offers two main kinds: • In-home respite – a trained provider comes to your home • Out-of-home respite – the child stays temporarily in a licensed setting Both are designed to: • Reduce caregiver stress • Keep families stable • Support kids with behavioral health needs 👨‍👩‍👧 Who qualifies Typically, the child must: • Be under 21 • Have Ohio Medicaid • Have significant behavioral health needs (based on a CANS assessment) 🧩 How to get respite services 1. Request a CANS assessment (through a provider, Medicaid plan, or CME) 2. If eligible, enroll in OhioRISE 3. Work with a care coordinator to add respite to your child’s care plan ⚠️ Important to know • Respite is not automatic — it must be approved based on need • It’s meant for behavioral health-related caregiving, not general babysitting • Services are coordinated through your assigned care team
